ON BORROWED TIME

This body of work began with a digitally made artist book and evolved into a series of handmade text pieces that are displayed within discrete sculptural objects.

In conversation with Kennedy White House sympathy stationery I inherited, On Borrowed Time considers grief on an intimate scale. The black piping references Victorian-Era mourning practices and the discrete sculptural objects quote keepsake and funerary boxes. Each piece is stamped with a handmade wax seal of my maternal family crest.

The language is derived from end of life utterances, the words of hospital doctors and hospice nurses, and phrases lodged in mind during bereavement. This fragmentary writing calls upon read and unread messages - the incomplete communications existent throughout our lives.
